Drug Situation: The Hawaiian Islands are
located approximately 2,500 miles from the continental United States. The
population is comprised of several ethnic groups, to include native Hawaiians,
Japanese, Korean, Phillipino, African-American, and Caucasian. All of the
illegal drugs that are available on the mainland can also be found in the
islands, with cocaine HCl, crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine ("ice"),
Ecstasy, and OxyContin being the leading threats in the state. Hawaii also
remains the producer of some of the highest-grade marijuana in the country
(such as "Kona Gold"), and it is suspected that much of it is exported to the
mainland. |
